In a statement during the G7 Ministerial Conference, “Uniting for Global Food Security” on June 27, 2022, Mr. José Manuel Albares Bueno, Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, reiterated Spain’s strong support for GAFSP and confirmed the upcoming contribution to the Program.
Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez previously announced Spain’s pledge of EUR 10 million during Global Citizen’s Global Goal: Unite for our Future event in 2020. Spain continues to play a key role in the multilateral effort in response to ongoing crises by committing to increase financial contributions to multiple multilateral agencies and programs, including GAFSP.
We need to step up our humanitarian and development efforts to support those in need and promote sustainable agriculture and food systems. We are funding a multilateral effort as an initial response to these crises and are committed to increasing our financial contribution to… GAFSP, where this year we will reach US$100 million in contributions.
– Mr. José Manuel Albares Bueno, Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation
With this new contribution, Spain will have contributed EUR 80 million (equiv. US$100 million) to GAFSP to support agricultural investments in the world’s poorest countries.
