Private Sector Window
The GAFSP Private Sector Window uses blended finance solutions and concessional funding to support projects that improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in the world’s poorest countries.
It invests across the entire food supply chain — from farm inputs, logistics, and storage to processing and financing — with a focus on early-stage agribusiness projects that have strong potential for development impact.
Partnering with the IFC
Working alongside the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, we:
- Use blended finance to invest in projects that may not attract commercial funding due to high perceived risks.
- Co-invest GAFSP funding alongside IFC funding, but with more affordable terms to address market failures.
- Support early-stage and higher-risk projects in IDA and fragile or conflict-affected states that have high potential for development impact.
This approach allows us to partner with companies that integrate smallholder farmers into their value chains — improving access to markets, financing, and storage while raising incomes and production.

Beyond Finance: Building Capacity
We recognize that finance alone isn’t enough for sustainable private sector development.
That’s why we also provide:
Technical support and advisory services through IFC’s Advisory Services.
On-the-ground training for businesses and farmers to improve productivity and strengthen standards.
Guidance to reduce risks and mitigate climate change impacts.
The Private Sector Window is generously funded by the governments of Australia, Canada, Japan, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
